Mission

We are seeking an above ground Memorial at Ground Zero with street-level placement of the names of those lost on February 26, 1993 and September 11, 2001. We believe that this is the only honorable and dignified way to memorialize the dead. The current plan of the LMDC places these names below ground. This placement forces visitors into a cramped, confined space and places them in harms way as it provides no viable exit strategy. This type of memorial is only possible because the Port Authority, landlords of this site, have been provided exemptions from NYC Building and Fire Codes.

To this end

  • We are seeking the names to be above ground along with the symbol that America is coming to see, the facades. This structure was part of the original towers and stood strong after the attacks as a symbol of the courage, resiliency and spirit of our nation.
  • We are calling for the elimination of the random placement of the names.
  • We support the preservation of remnants below street level provided that there is a safe evacuation design and procedure that would be subject to the legal jurisdiction of NYC Building and Fire Department Codes.

“Safety First is the priority of our campaign. Ground Zero will always remain as much a terrorist attraction as it is a tourist attraction. We must secure the safety of the visitors from around the world to this site. We call upon Congress to remove these exemptions and require that all future construction at Ground Zero be subject to the legal jurisdiction of the NYC Building and Fire Departments. By accomplishing these goals we feel we are attending to the true spirit of 9/11 and our nation by creating a historically significant and safe experience for visitors in the future.
