REBUILDING GROUND ZERO……NOTHING HAS CHANGED

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Take a moment and read the article below about the rebuilding at Ground Zero.Lies cover ups and spiraling costs that nobody likes to mention.

Just a month ago we heard about hundreds of thousands in penalties that are being paid due to late delivery of construction.

Remember when the ceiling was set on spending for the memorial.

No mention of those costs……..yet.

The memorial has already been delayed 2 years ……..so far.

And who is held accountable……..Nobody

When you finish reading the article read our post from August 2006

WBAI-FM
January 27, 2008

The second segment of Health Action tomorrow will be an in-depth discussion of the NYPD’s plan to require anyone who owns or uses a device to test the air or the water for contamination to get a permit.

If the City Council goes along with the police plan, New York City will become the first jurisdiction in the world where air monitors will be illegal unless permitted, a place that will put a new twist on the National Rifle Association bumper sticker –”When air monitors are outlawed, only outlaws will have air monitors!”

Beginning at 1:30, host Jonathan Bennett will discuss the details of the NYPD’s plan, known as Intro. 650, which is now under consideration by the City Council.

Two guests, environmental scientist and educator Maggie Clark of Maggie Clarke Environmental and Kimberly Flynn, co-coordinator of 9/11 Environmental Action.

The program will be broadcast on January 28 at 1:30 pm ET on WBAI 99.5 FM or via webcast at www.wbai.org

The program will be available from the wbai.org Internet site for 90 days. Look for the “Health Action” segment from 1pm on 1/28.

Pre-SOTU PRESS CONFERENCE*

WASHINGTON, DC - 9/11 responders who were made sick by the toxic air at Ground Zero will be in Washington, D.C. for this years State of the Union address to urge the Administration to include sufficient 9/11 health funding in its FY 2009 budget proposal, and ask why the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) suddenly decided last month to halt its plans for organizing health monitoring and treatment for Ground Zero workers around the country.

The Administration has failed to include adequate 9/11 health funding in any of its post-9/11 budget proposals. The New York delegation has had to fight time and again for federal funding to help sick responders. And, weeks before Christmas, HHS suddenly announced that it had abandoned plans to create the first federally-funded national program to provide treatment for sick 9/11 responders who reside outside the New York metropolitan area. Currently, no such national treatment program exists.

The responders will sit in the gallery for President Bushs State of the Union Address, and hold a pre-speech Capitol Hill press conference with members Congress to discuss their long-fought struggle to get the health care they need and deserve and the need to pass H.R. 3543.

WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW

Friday, January 25th, 2008

I just finished watching a movie and two things struck me. The song “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” played as the credits rolled on and on.

Actors, directors, producers, stunt men, grips, caterers etc.

For some reason I was immediately thinking about the current Primary Race.

So many people involved and so many similarities to making a movie.

Or really more like making a TV series as the candidates need to come up with new scripts every week.

And just like TV they need to go for the ratings.

Whether it is that special guest star or the item grabbed from the current headlines.

The problem is this isn’t a movie and not a TV series it is the process that will decide the future President of our country.

Unfortunately the candidates continue to act more like movie stars than future leaders.

And their campaigns are run more like ad campaigns then political campaigns.

The problem is at least in the movie business they had gotten past the race and gender card.

Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts are just a few that millions pay to see with each new release.

More people go to see an actress or actor in a movie if they are good, not because they are African American or not because they are female.

Unfortunately that is not the case with this year’s primary.

Too much attention continues to be being put on the sex, race or religion of the candidates when it should be being placed on the qualifications.

While DNA determines what we are it is life experience that determines who we are.

We need to get back to that and again that is not easy.

For like movie stars the candidates change with each role.

And what plays in the Bible Belt doesn’t necessarily play to well in the north east or California.

Take a speech from one state and match it against a speech in another and it would be difficult to determine that it was the same candidate.

So what is one to do?

Do we vote for the candidate that has the most money and can afford the best ad campaign?

I don’t think so, as I have gone to see too many bombs based on great trailers.

Do we vote for the candidate because they are the same race, religion or sex that we are?

Again I don’t think so as we should at least use as much judgment in an election as we do in selecting a movie.

So again what do we do?

We must put aside race gender and religion.

We do some of our own homework and check out what the candidates have actually done.

Because if these candidates were stars according to them their shelves would be lined with Oscars and Emmys.

A little research will definitely go a long way.

Do this on your own and do not rely on media endorsements as they have become as useless as reviews.

With some reviewers praising every movie a particular actor or actress is in, no matter how bad it is.

Best answer is deciding for yourself and letting the best man or woman win.

Because they are not stars and neither are we. We are the grips, caterers, best boys and all the other little people.

And getting back to the song?

Don’t expect any of the candidates to love you tomorrow.

As they will be on to the next state before you even wake up.

9/11 responders from around the country will sit in the gallery for President Bushs State of the Union Address to highlight their struggle to get the health care they need and deserve. In particular, the responders will urge the Administration to include sufficient 9/11 health funding in its FY 2009 budget proposal
