It was reported in today’s NY Times that an employee of the Medical Examiner’s Office was convicted of stealing millions of dollars in 9/11 funds earmarked for the identification of human remains. (see articles below)
Add this to the fact the company currently being employed to do the identifications has a somewhat questionable track record and it may explain why we do not have even one identification from the over 1,750 remains uncovered in the new search.
It may also explain why we can never get a direct answer to our questions.
Hopefully this will bring the attention we need for a complete outside investigation into the process. For far too long we have allowed all the parties involved in the recovery effort to monitor themselves and we have seen the results.
We hope that our elected officials and friends in the media will help in getting this investigation started.
In addition to the Medical Examiner’s Office we need to have a full investigation as well as an audit of the LMDC, LMCCC and the NYPD Property Department and maybe get some answers to the following:
How many remains from the new search if any have been tested and what were the results?
What was the result of the loss of the ME laptop containing personal information on the 9/11 victims?
Why has there not been an official response to the allegations that nearly $1 Million and thousands of personal items vouchered by the NYPD Property Department after 9/11 cannot be accounted for?
Why is it that a Haul Road that was contracted to be built from fresh fill contained over 400 human remains and two 18 foot steel beams?
These are just a few of the questions that have gone unanswered for too long.
Add them to the fact that a full audit has still not been done on all of the contracts and 9/11 grants issued after 9/11 at both the State and Federal level and we may see that this is just the tip of the iceberg.
HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE A WAKE UP CALL
