Padma Cole became the 6,625 person to sign our petition to support HR Bill 1861.

It must have been extremely difficult for her as she lost her 7 year old daughter MacKenzie on 9/11/07 in a falling TV accident.

As with so many of us 9/11 will always be remembered as the day her child died.

There is one big difference.

There was no pending legislation that could have prevented the deaths of our loved ones on 9/11.

In MacKenzie’s case there was.

Nearly 2 years ago HR Bill 1861 was introduced into Congress. Over that time we have contacted every Representative in the country asking them to support the bill.

We have amassed 6,625 signatures on our petition and what happened…….NOTHING.

We were not even able to get 50 Representatives to co-sponsor the bill and it died in committee while all the others didn’t think it was important enough or didn’t want to do anything that might upset “Big Business Interests”

The Bill no longer exists as we cannot even get anyone to resubmit it.

They continue to ignore this very simple and inexpensive bill that would require warning labels on furniture and TV’s and require that manufactures supply securing devices.

They continue to ignore us and children continue to die.

At least 10 that we know of over the past 3 years.

And now Padma Cole will join the group of nearly 3,000 others who will remember 9/11 as the day they lost a loved one.

A group that she should not have had to join.

COLE, , MACKENZIE KATHERINE Born on June 19, 2000 died unexpectedly on September 11, 2007. Mackenzie was in the 2nd grade at Brinker Elementary. She was involved in swimming, basketball and soccer. “Our Precious” was such a good little girl and so easy to take care of and full of fun. Always full of life, she loved her sister and brother and we will cherish her forever in our memories. She is survived by her parents, Randall and Padma, her brother, Trevor and her identical twin sister, Alexis; all of Plano.

On Monday, September 24, 2007, two (2) potential human remains* were recovered from the World Financial Center.

A panel of distinguished New Yorkers will reflect on the memories made that day, how those memories have changed and what they might yet become.

The Future of September 11th: The View From New York will feature: Ric Burns, award winning documentary filmmaker whose work includes New York: A Documentary Film; The Rev. Dr. Stuart Hoke, chaplain at St. Paul’s Chapel, home to an extraordinary eight-month volunteer relief effort following the 9/11 terrorist attacks; Anne Nelson, journalist, playwright and screenwriter, whose play The Guys, based on her experience immediately after 9/11, has been produced across the United States and in 12 other countries and Michael Shulan, co-founder of Here is New York: A Democracy of Photographs, a grass-roots photographic exhibition of 9/11 images, and Creative Director at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.

Clifford Chanin, founder of The Legacy Project and Senior Program Advisor at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum will be the moderator for the evening.

The event begins at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 27 at St. Paul’s Chapel on Broadway and Fulton Streets in Lower Manhattan and is free to the public. We look forward to seeing you there.

Ellen,

Can you please let me know when the search area was expanded to include the World Financial Center? This is an extremely active area and I do not recall work ever being performed there. Also where there additional areas searched that have not been listed on any previous plans? Also since we continue to find remains from the roof of the Cedar Street location has the city considered re-searching the other surrounding rooftops as we have suggested.

Finally can we please have an update as to the status of identifications from the new search and the old search? We have asked repeatedly for this information but have gotten no response.
