MAYOR BLOOMBERG……..DO YOU REMEMBER?

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Excerpts from August 6, 2002 Press Conference concerning the first anniversary ceremony

“I want to begin by thanking the thousands of New Yorkers who have used the Web site and phone line the City set up for this purpose. They have made suggestions about this commemoration and we have tried to listen and include and use as many as we could. Many suggestions have also come from family members who lost love ones on 9.11 and we paid particular attention to those Mayor Bloomberg.

From that moment on, throughout the day, the families of those lost on 9/11 will, for the first time, be invited to descend the ramp to the lowest level of the World Trade Center site. They will have an opportunity to remember their loved ones on what many consider sacred ground. We will ask them to take a rose, put it in a vase and we will save those roses and make them part of the permanent memorial when it is eventually built. Mayor Bloomberg

“I think the families. They wanted to be able to interact with Ground Zero in some way. And think about what you do a year after someone dies. You go to the cemetery, you pay your respects, you lay a stone, you lay a flower, and the Mayor and the Governor have seen to it that the families can try to go down that ramp and do that, because for them that is sacred ground Christy Ferer

Or maybe what you said before the second anniversary

“On this September 11th, the hearts and minds of our City, our country and freedom-loving people from around the world, will again turn toward the World Trade Center site, said Mayor Bloomberg. “This will be the second time that we as friends, as families, and as one community, will gather to remember a tragic day which has become synonymous with not only great sorrow and loss, but also courage and resilience. Our intent is to hold a ceremony that is simple and powerful and that honors the memory of those lost, so we can remember and reflect. Forever mindful of the grief still felt by the families, and our desire to honor the heroes of that day, we plan to mark this anniversary as a day of remembrance and pride, but equally as a day on which we turn toward the future. In keeping with that, we will ask our children to take the lead in the ceremony. It is in them that the spirit of our City lives on.

Well we do remember.

But we also remember when the discovery of even one human remain would be disturbing news.

We also remember when the discovery of 170 remains in a week would have sent shock waves through New York

But unfortunately over the past few years you and your administration have forgotten

And forgotten at the expense of the 9/11 families.

The spin doctors continue to work their magic and legitimate family concern is depicted as complaining.

And the families who you once claimed to pay close attention to are now considered a nuisance.

And the families’ attempt to mitigate this situation is depicted as a boycott.

This is not a boycott as we do not enforce our will on anyone.

We hope you will consider the compromise solution that we have presented.

As Hugh White stated “When you make a mistake, don’t look back at it long. Take the reason of the thing into your mind and then look forward. Mistakes are lessons of wisdom. The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power.â€?

Mayor Bloomberg the future is yet in your power.

Letter to Commissioner Pavizi Mayor is showing no respect

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Commissioner Pavizi,

Well I guess the cries of Never Forget have been short lived.
How can the Mayor be an example of such disrespect for the entire city?

How can the rebuilding process that is eventually supposed to honor those that were murdered be so inconsiderate and continue with “business as usual” on the very spot were the deaths occurred?

Is the city afraid that perhaps the family members might come across remains that were “overlooked” during the first recovery effort and are now being ignored in a second attempt at recovery?

What happened to the heart in I love NY?
What a shame!

What: Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Spitzer have not issued a formal response to our request asking them to reconsider their decision to relocate the Sept. 11, 2007 memorial service to Zuccotti plaza. Therefore, 9/11 families will file for a permit with the Port Authority to stage our own anniversary ceremony at the World Trade Center site. In a poll published in today’s Crain’s, over 72% of respondents support our efforts to halt construction at the World Trade Center site on September 11, 2007, so that the annual memorial service can return to the sacred site.

Since September 11, 2002, there has never been construction activity at the World Trade Center site on September 11th. Therefore, as America watches this year, we trust that Governor Spitzer, the Port Authority, and City of New York will honor that five-year precedent and declare a moratorium on any construction on the sacred ground on September 11, 2007.

Our action is not to be considered a boycott of the City’s ceremony, for we have a duty to gather together each year at the World Trade Center site on September 11th to honor our nation’s 2,750 victims. But we also have a duty to participate in an authentic and meaningful ceremony, and will therefore advance plans to stage our own anniversary ceremony at the site. We continue to encourage officials to meet with us to discuss our viable and preferred alternative to their plans.

When: Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at NOON

Where: In front of the downtown NYC offices of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at 115 Broadway.

ANOTHER RESPONSE

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Dear Governor Spitzer and Mayor Bloomberg:

As a concerned American citizen, former resident of New York, and proud friend of a fallen 9/11 firefighter, I am appalled at the consideration of relocating the annual memorial service to any location, other than where the disaster occurred.

I understand that you are considering the safety of the families in your decision, basing it on construction. That construction, however, is all a direct result of the tragedy these families are commemorating! Just as America came to a grinding halt on that day, so should any construction. To move the ceremony to another location makes it appear as if this national tragedy was but a trite occurrence—an its remembrance a mere inconvenience in the face of progress. This is a complete dishonor to those who gave their lives, and to the families who live on.

I trust that this decision will be overturned out of respect for those who have lost so much.

Sincerely,

Terri, Anthony, and AJ Schryer

Support From Across The Pond

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Dear Governor Spitzer and Mayor Bloomberg:

My cousin, Robert Evans, FDNY, was amongst those who died needlessly on
9/11/2001.

I am shocked and horrified by the callous attitude of the City of New
York and of the state of New York toward those who yielded the
supreme sacrifice and to those who remain. This is not the first time
that I have been so shocked and horrified.

As one who has never been to your city my abiding image of New York
since early childhood has always been the harbour lady.

What of liberty, equality and fraternity now? Do these ideals now only
apply to land developers? Does the fraternal relationship with
developers over-ride the fraternity that is surely the due of the bereaved?

Please reconsider your decision and respond positively to the request
expressed so clearly by the families below.

Yours sincerely,

Donal Windrim
