Put It Above Ground

It was reported yesterday that many NYC Business Leaders have written Congress calling on them to earmark $283 million for treatment for 9/11 workers who have become ill.While this is a very noble effort one has to wonder how Congress will react?

Some of the most influential business leaders will have to convince Congress to give us additional funding while we have only taken advantage of 50.4% of the nearly 1.5 billion dollars that they have allocated in federal anti-terrorism grants.

One would think that we might be better served if these business leaders helped to explain why we have nearly 750 Million in federal aid that we have apparently ignored.

Just last night a man was arrested for storing 2,500 pounds of potassium nitrate on Staten Island. This along with the reported thwarted bombing in London shows how real these threats still are.

There is no reason why these funds should not be used. These workers are only ill because of a terrorist attack. There has to be some way to tap into these already existing funds.

Hell if we can fund Dunkin Donut shops in Phoenix with 9/11 grants you would think that these guys could come up with a way to justify the use of these funds for people who really need the money.

The funds should also be used to benefit the injured veterans who have come home after defending our nation.

It is amazing how quickly so many have gotten off their soap boxes.

When the story broke in the Washington Post there was almost unilateral outrage about the treatment of the vets at Walter Reed.

Has anyone heard anything recently about all of those promises of that were made.

Unfortunately this is the same story here.

As the years pass people forget…..even memorials get vandalized and nobody does a thing about it.

Well there are 750,000,000 reasons to do something about it now.

The question is who is going to finally step up to the plate.

Sounds like it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the two (or possibly 3) NY presidential candidates.

Dear Dennis,

I wanted to contribute my thoughts on what happened to my Son’s plaque at the WT Memorial. I was cooking dinner when I saw it on the news. I must say it was unsettling to see his picture on the news. To see that someone did that intentionally made our family feel terrible as we could not believe that someone could do that.I spoke to Michele about it and I was very happy that Michele spoke on the news about it. I hope that people never forget Sept. 11th. We were never prepared for what happened and they could strike again any time. People need to know that. A memorial for the victims of 9-11 should be held with the highest regard for all the heroes that perished that day. I wanted you to hear what we thought and felt about it too.
