HUMAN REMAINS UPDATE 1/31 NO REMAINS 2 STEEL BEAMS FOUND IN HAUL ROAD

January 31st, 2007

Human Remains Update 1/31/07

No human remains were found at the site or at 11 Water Street or at the 39th St facility or anywhere else they might be going through remains that we do not know about.

Two steel beams from the Towers were found in the Haul Road.

Not diagonally impaled by falling but laid crossways across the road.

These beams were found over a week ago and we have to hear it from the press.

There is no way that this supports the city’s contention that the remains that have been found were accidentally dropped from trucks transporting material to Fresh Kills.

It also supports our position that this road was constructed from material from the pit and never properly searched.

The city stated that this road was searched twice as it was constructed twice.

How were these beams missed twice?

Why is no one investigating the contractors who constructed the road?

This entire process continues to be a travesty.

One lie after another

The Hornings inquired about the 39th Street Facility and were told by OCME that it is on a pier in Brooklyn. The facility is used to store and pre-screen material from the Haul Road prior to it being sent to 11 Water Street.

Why have we never been told of this location?

Why wasn’t this facility part of the family tour?

What are the precautions taken at this site?

What is meant by pre-screening?

Is this the area where non human WTC material is being removed?

If so where is it being inventoried and stored?

Once again we never get the full story?

White House Will Include Funding for 9/11 Health Treatment in Budget Proposal

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

9/11 HEALTH BREAKTHROUGH:

Reps. Fossella & Maloney Confirm

White House Will Include Funding for

9/11 Health Treatment in Budget Proposal

Agreement Represents First Time Ever Funding Will Be Included for Treatment

[Washington, DC] - Congressman Vito Fossella (R-N13) and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY14) today confirmed that, for the first time ever, the White House will include $25 million in its Fiscal Year 2008 budget for health treatment for sick/injured 9/11 responders.

Fossella and Maloney said the $25 million represents a starting point and that they have received a commitment from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) that, if needed, additional funding will be added to the budget this year. Fossella, Congressman Peter King and Congressman Jim Walsh met with OMB officials this morning

Fossella said, “This is a breakthrough. For the first time in the federal budget there will be a down payment to provide funding for continued treatment and monitoring for 9/11 responders who need our help. This funding represents a starting point, and we will continue working to ensure that funding is available for all those who are sick or injured.”

Maloney said, “I see this as recognition from the President — for the first time — that regular 9/11 health funding is an absolute necessity. Ultimately it will take billions of dollars to tackle this massive crisis, but hopefully this is a first step to getting adequate help to sick responders, office workers and residents. The tragic stories of 9/11 heroes like Cesar Borja and James Zadroga have showed everyone the grave consequences of inaction, and I am glad our government is taking notice.”

HUMAN REMAINS UPDATE 1/30…7 MORE REMAINS RECOVERED

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

HUMAN REMAINS UPDATE 1/30

Seven more human remains were uncovered today. As they get further south along the Haul Road and the excavations need to get deeper you can expect the numbers to greatly increase.

Are we the only ones or doesn’t anyone else find it odd that no WTC debris has been found in this search of the haul road.

Obviously they do not want us to know how much is being found.

If they did the numbers would not add up.

They continue to try to these finds as being accidentally dropped when debris was being deposited into trucks taking it to the landfill.

Anyone with information about the construction of the haul road please contact us at 718-966-6531.

Still no data on results from any finds mentioned below.

We will keep asking.

Before you continue here is a quote for you

A spokeswoman for Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Virginia Lam, defended the city’s record. “New York City has the biggest DNA data base in the country, and the city’s medical examiner has deployed medical legal investigators supervised by a forensic anthropologist at the site full time,” she said.

The above quote is from 4/23/06.

“The biggest DNA data base in the country”

UPI STORY : WRONGFUL DEATH SUIT

Monday, January 29th, 2007

A $20 million wrongful death suit has been filed against New York City by the wife of a utility repairman who died of a rare lung disease.

The suit contends Mark DeBiase, 41, contracted pulmonary fibrosis as a result of his work at Ground Zero to restore essential cell phone service after Sept. 11, 2001, The New York Post reports.

Legal papers filed by lawyer Andrew Carboy accuse the city of failing to provide DeBiase with protective gear to keep him from breathing toxic air and dust while toiling for weeks at Ground Zero and the Fresh Kills landfill.

A Coast Guard veteran, DeBaise left behind a wife, Jean Marie, and three sons aged 12, 9 and 8.

Two other first responders, Detective James Zadroga and Police Officer Cesar Borja, also died of pulmonary fibrosis.

The DeBaise case is one of the first wrongful death suits filed by a World Trade Center responder that specifically links the rare lung disease to Ground Zero exposure.

Stuyvesant High School Grad Needs Bone Marrow

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Urgent: Your help is needed.Dear friends,

Sam, a 2003 Stuyvesant High School graduate, was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia over the winter break. He had no symptoms and the diagnosis was made after a routine blood test. Sam was enjoying a full life as a serious student, a captain of the Harvard fencing team, a member of the tennis team and a regular volunteer at the student run homeless shelter. In addition to academics and sports, Sam has always taken a lot of interest in helping people out – in addition to his work at the shelter, he’s been an active tutor for underprivileged kids since high school.

Sam is on medical leave from Harvard where he was expected to graduate with Physics/Math degree this June. Currently he just finished two rounds of chemotherapy at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. He will most likely need a bone marrow transplant to increase his chance of being cured from this terrible disease. Sam is Eurasian, and the donor registry has specific needs for Asian and Eurasian donors. Of course, we do not expect most donors to help Sam specifically, but there are many other patients like him.

Join the Registry.

Every day, thousands of patients just like Sam are searching for a volunteer donor who could save their life.

To join the Registry, you must be age 18 to 60, in good health and committed to helping any patient in need. To learn more, visit.

www.marrow.org/HELP/Join_the_Registry/code/join_now.html?src=text

The registration process is very simple. Once you register online, you will receive a kit in the mail. The kit contains a form and you will need to send back 4 Q-tip cheek swabs. Once the sample is analyzed, your name will be added to the registry. If you are a match, you will be contacted for further evaluation.

Raise awareness. Please share this opportunity to save a life with your friends, family members or associates. Encourage them to join the global movement of more than 10 million volunteers who are committed to giving patients a second chance at life.Contribute online. If you would like to make a donation to benefits all patients and their families, go to

http://www.themarrowfoundation.org.

We especially urge all Asians and Eurasians friends and colleagues to register as soon as possible. The process takes several weeks and there is no time to lose.

Thank you for your generosity and compassion during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

The Cross Family

WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG?

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

The Mayor is now calling for the feds to revive the Victims Compensation Fund.

MIKE WANTS FED 9/11 SICK PAY

http://www.where-to-turn.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=34852

Two questions for the Mayor:

Why did it take so long?

We have already suggested that you take Ken Feinberg’s advice and do just this.

MAYOR’S PRIORITIES ONCE AGAIN MISPLACED

http://www.where-to-turn.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=34605

Instead you decided to spend countless hours and money on lawyers to fight these claims.

Lawyers on your staff that could have been working on other issues were told to find ways to halt claims of people who you knew were in need.

Once again the victims of 9/11 were being ignored.

Secondly,

Why is it OK to seek Federal help with this and not accept their offer of JPAC for the search of remains?

One would have to assume that if you are now open to Federal assistance that you would be open to bringing in JPAC.

I do recall someone recently speaking about Common Sense solutions and sharing resources.

Sounds like the perfect time to back up these words.

We now have other lawmakers calling for Federal support for victims suffering from 9/11 related illnesses as well as JPAC.

It is time to put aside your pride and do what is right.

Of course there will always be those that think this will be too expensive.

The solution is also simple.

As a show of good faith to the Feds take the same lawyers you were using to halt the medical payments and have them go after all of the money improperly distributed in NYC 9/11 Small Business loans and paid to no show contracts.

An audit of the LMDC might also go a long way to show fiscal responsibility.

You should also join other NY lawmakers and demand that something be done about the illegal TSA contracts and misappropriation of Federal funds that have been revealed in numerous audits.

Since it appears that a Special Master has been appointed it appears we are well on our way to getting this done.

The victims both alive and dead deserve it.

Letter to NYC & the Medical Examiner’s office re human remains at GZ

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

To:

Deputy Mayor Ed Skyler ESkyler@cityhall.nyc.gov

NYC Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Charles Hirsch chirsch@ocme.nyc.gov,

January 26, 2007
Dear Dr. Hirsch, Mr. Skyler, et. al,

I am in receipt of the latest email, and heard the “breaking news” bulletin on the Ch 2 newscast this evening that the Medical Examiner’s office announced that 10 human remains were found at GZ today.

I and other family group leaders and family members have numerous questions, which were asked, but not answered, at the recent 11 Water Street tour. I have additional questions regarding this latest news: who found the latest remains at GZ? the construction workers? or someone else? how is it that this announcement was made so quickly and definitively? we thought that all materials were searched only by M.E.’s office representatives at 11 Water Street? How large are these remains? exactly what area of the haul road was it found? how deep? just how deep are you digging? are you digging down to “virgin soil”? Why no identifications of the one thousand remains found thus far? These are just some of the numerous questions that we have a right to have answered re our loved ones.

We were told at 11 Water Street that “it was not the right time” to ask and receive answers to our questions. I would now like to reiterate that it is time to have a meeting for the family group leaders & their advisors, where we can receive answers to all of our questions about this entire process.

To reiterate our past requests, we would like all the “correct persons” who are capable of answering all pertinent questions regarding the human remains of our loved ones, to be present at such a meeting to provide us with the information that we have been seeking for nearly one year.

We were told that such a meeting could be arranged, and I and others would like to have a fully informational meeting as soon as possible. We also reiterate our original request to receive a copy of the protocols, policies and procedures for this search and identification process.

A prompt reply would be most appreciated regarding potential dates for such a meeting. Thank you.
