COMMENT FOR LMDC
Thursday, July 13th, 2006It is abhorrent that the lives lost on 9/11 must be continually disgraced and robbed of their place in history.
Is it a coincidence that the recommended memorial plaza at Ground Zero resembles Rockefeller Center with it’s trees and open pit?
Or is it just a lack of true creative ability and laziness?
The 9/11 memorial and museum must be above ground, inclusive of access to the bedrock with the tower footprints.
The victims of 9/11 did not work in a pit, so why should their memorial be?
Eliminate random placement of the names-list by company,FD,PD,PAPD etc.
The names must be placed for proper viewing, not under an elbow on a handrail.
Include story kiosks for the victims.
Include any and all artifacts-ie:sphere, stairwell, facade and the steel cross.
Eliminate the P.A.’s building exemptions-enough people died thanks to that.
A version of the Korean Memorial would be more cost effective-ie: open air with lifesize bronze figures of rescue workers going in,up and out of the towers as well as the civilians to and from and at their job, a wall of names with different images etched.
The current design is a recipe for disrespect, chaos and is truly awaiting another deadly tragedy.
9/11 and Ground Zero are not a secret so stop trying to bury it.
Ground Zero is sacred ground-treat it as such.
It is not a shopping mall with dance companies, theaters and art galleries.
In a safe and secure manner, “we the people” want to feel, reflect and remember-NOT FORGET.
When the families concerns and requests are addressed and incorporated-perhaps the donations will come more freely.
